I’ve been working intermittently on an animation of our global temperature data sets. The spur was Antti Lipponen’s beautiful animation of temperature changes by country. There’s so much I like about it: the background like old paper, the precise and elegant feel of the elements and their clever organisation which means that when the animation runs you can see regional pulses of warmth and cold. And, of course, everyone can pick out countries they know and see how the climate has varied there over the past century or so. I work on a WMO team to help countries produce National Climate Monitoring Products, and this kind of animation would be a great way of displaying those products. Continue reading
